
NC State Drops Two Games On Second Day Of MNCC

CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. - NC State's softball team dropped both of its games on Friday at the Mary Nutter Classic, narrowly falling to World Series Champion No. 4/5 Oklahoma, 7-5, in the first game and dropping a 10-2 contest with RV/RV Oregon State in the nightcap.
NC State falls to 3-11 this season while the Sooners improve to 10-3 and the Beavers move to 7-3 after Saturday's competition at the Big League Dreams Sports Park in Cathedral City, Calif.
Game Rewind vs. Oklahoma
-The Sooners took an early 3-0 lead in the first inning. With runners on second and third with one out OU's Fale Aviu grounded out to the shortstop to send Caleigh Clifton across the plate for the first run. Sydney Romero followed with an RBI single down the left side and a Wolfpack error brought in the third.
-OU tallied two more in the third, as Kylie Lundberg hit an RBI double with a runner on first and Rogers singled to left field to bring Lundberg home.
-Centerfielder Jade Caraway plated NC State's first run in the fourth inning, setting up the scoring play with a base hit and a double by Cheyenne Balzer brought her home.
-Oklahoma added two more in the top of the sixth which were scored on a single and ground out to third base.
-In the bottom of the frame Caraway scored NC State's second run of the game on an RBI single by Balzer. Jessica Moore then belted a three-run homer to left field to cut the Pack's deficit to 7-5, marking the team's second home run of the season and the first of her career.
-The Pack threatened in the seventh with two runners on base, but was unable to get them in.
Game Rewind vs. Oregon State
-The Beavers struck first, as McKenna Arriola bunt singled down the third base line and stole second, and a single up the right side by Shelby Weeks pushed her across the plate to give OSU a 1-0 advantage.
-NC State knotted the game in the third as Macauley Prickett scored from second base on a single by Molly Hutchison.
-OSU took back the lead in the bottom of the frame. The first run was scored on an error, and the next two were on a 2-RBI single by Sammi Noland to extend her team's lead to 4-1.
-The Beavers sealed the win in the fourth with six runs scored on as many hits. Three straight singles loaded the bases, and Hampton was walked to bring in the first run. A single down the left side by Alysha Everett extended the Beavers' lead to five before Peyton Silverman was relieved by Harli Hubbard. Two more 2-RBI singles to right field gave OSU a 10-1 lead.
-The Pack tried rally in the seventh as Ross was brought home on Caraway's third triple of the season to give NC State its other run, but wasn't enough.
On Deck
NC State will face Northwestern in is final game at the Mary Nutter Classic Saturday. First pitch is set for 5:30 PM ET.
