Rizzi Selected To Participate In National Team Open Tryout

Sophomore outfielder Angie Rizzi of the NC State softball team has been identified as one of the top emerging prospects in the sport, and has been invited to participate in the 2018 USA Softball Women's National Team 'Open Tryout.'

The open tryout will be held Dec. 31 at the Eddie C. Moore Softball Complex in Clearwater, Fla., and will involve a series of softball related skill drills for each position including hitting and bunting.

The top performers from the open tryout will be selected to attend and compete in the USA Softball WNT Selection Trails the first week of January, where 17 athletes will then be chosen to represent the United States in the 2018 World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) World Championship in Japan Aug. 3-13, 2018.

A Tuckahoe, N.Y., native, Rizzi transferred from LIU Brooklyn where she finished second on the team in 2017 with a .354 batting average, tallying 57 hits and 37 runs. She started all 52 games for the Blackbirds as a freshman in the outfield, owning a .989 fielding percentage.
