TUCSON, Ariz. – After collecting Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-America honors last season, NC State baseball's Will Wilson has been tabbed a 2018 Preseason All-American by the organization, announced Monday afternoon.
Â
Wilson was one of just two Wolfpack players to start all 61 games in 2017 and one of just three freshmen in the ACC to start all of their team's games. He started 57 games at second base, two at shortstop and a pair at designated hitter. Wilson finished the year with a .300 batting average to go along with 72 hits, tying with classmate Brad Debo for the second most on the team.
He tied for the ACC lead with 21 doubles, the second-highest total for any freshman in the nation. Wilson hit eight home runs to rank second among ACC rookies in that category. In addition, he tallied 48 RBIs to pace all ACC freshmen and finish second on the team.
Â
The Kings Mountain, N.C., native hit .314 against right-handed pitchers and compiled a .311 clip with runners on base. Additionally, he logged a .429 batting average with the bases loaded, highlighted by a pair of grand slams including an inside the park slam at home versus Clemson.
Â
Wilson led the Pack with 14 multi-RBI games, highlighted by two four-RBI performances and two three-RBI games. He finished his freshman campaign second on the squad with 20 multi-hit games, including a team-best three four-hit outings.
He was also a D1Baseball Freshman All-America selection and was named to the ACC All-Freshman Team. Wilson was invited to training camp with USA Baseball's Collegiate National Team earlier this summer as well.
Â
NC State opens the 2018 season at home on Feb. 16 against Seton Hall. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m. at Doak Field at Dail Park. For the second consecutive season, the Wolfpack will kickoff the season with the #Pack9 Party, which will take place on Jan. 18 at 6 p.m. inside the Close-King Indoor Practice Facility.
