RALEIGH – The NC State women's basketball team seeks its seventh consecutive 3-0 start to a season on Wednesday evening when UNC Asheville comes to town. Tip-off between the Wolfpack and Bulldogs is scheduled for 7 p.m. from Reynolds Coliseum with live video coverage provided by ACC Network Extra.

-Last season, UNC Asheville won the Big South Tournament by picking up four wins in four days. The team finished with a 19-15 record and lost in the first round of the NCAA Tournament to eventual champion South Carolina.
-UNC Asheville returns three starters from last year's team and was selected to finish fifth in the Big South this season.

Led by a career-high 21 points from sophomore Lucky Rudd, NC State earned its eighth consecutive 2-0 start to a season Sunday afternoon by taking down the Davidson Wildcats 73-49 inside Reynolds Coliseum.

NC State had four players score in double figures, led by Rudd's 21 points. Senior Chelsea Nelson posted her second double-digit scoring game of the season with 15 points, as did senior Akela Maize, who finished with 10 points. Freshman Kai Crutchfield added 11 of her own in just the second game of her career.

Senior center Akela Maize of the NC State women's basketball team has been named to the 20-player watch list for the inaugural Lisa Leslie Award, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and Women's Basketball Coaches Association announced Nov. 10.

Named after the three-time All-American and 1994 National Player of the Year, the Lisa Leslie Award recognizes the top cenÂters in women's college basketball. The selection committee for the award is comprised of top women's college basketball personnel including media members, head coaches, sports information directors, and Hall of Famers. By mid-February the list of 20 will be trimmed to 10. In March, five finalists will be presented to Ms. Leslie and the Hall of Fame's selection committee. Fans will also have the opportunity to vote for their favorite finalist at HoopHallAwards.com.

Maize followed up her nomination with a strong performance in the season-opening win over Jacksonville on Nov. 10, scorÂing a career high 15 points and collecting a career high eight rebounds in 24 minutes of game action. Through two games this season, she is averaging 12.5 points and 6.0 rebounds per outing.
