LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The NC State women's tennis team continues to go from strength to strength, with junior Claudia Wiktorin and sophomore Anna Rogers earning their way to the main doubles draw at the 2017 Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships on Wednesday.
Wiktorin & Rogers are only the second duo in program history to qualify for the main draw at the ITA All-American Championships in doubles, with the other pairing being Sanaa Bhambri & Sandya Nagaraj in 2010.
The duo, who were the No. 5 seed on the qualifying draw and were No. 26 on the ITA preseason doubles poll, began the morning by defeating Laura Gulbe & Dzina Milovanovic of Pepperdine 8-5, then fell to Northwestern's Erin Larner and Lee Or 8-6 in the evening.
Despite the loss, Wiktorin and Rogers received a lucky loser spot in the main draw as the highest seeded team to lose in the qualifying round when a team pulled out of the main draw.
Rogers is thrilled to have the opportunity to play in such a prestigious tournament.
"We are really excited to have been put into the main draw," she said. "Today's match was a tough one and didn't quite go our way, but Claudia and I are eager to get back on court tomorrow."
Up Next
Tomorrow Wiktorin & Rogers take on Wichita State's Gabriela Porubin & Fatima Bizhukova at 1:00 P.M. (ET).
