Wolfpack earns highest RPI ranking since 2013

RALEIGH, N.C. – After playing one of the nation's toughest schedules through the first month of the season, the NC State volleyball team is listed at No. 37 in the first NCAA Rating Percentage Index (RPI) released Monday afternoon.
Â
NC State has won nine of its last 10 matches to own a 9-6 overall record and is one of just two undefeated teams in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) with a perfect 4-0 record.
Â
"I think it's that time of the year where we're trying to take some measurements and see where everything stacks up, as far as postseason implications," said head coach Linda Hampton-Keith. "This is a good indication of where we are right now, but the reality is that the NCAA Tournament isn't picked today.
Â
"We have to continue to do our job and win volleyball matches to increase our chances of making the tournament. While it's good to know where we are, it doesn't mean that's where we'll end so we still have a lot of work ahead of us."
Â
The Wolfpack's listing is the highest for the program since 2013 when the squad checked in at No. 36 in the ranking on Oct. 28, 2013. Last year, NC State also made a statement in the first RPI as the squad was listed No. 88 after finishing the 2015 season at 154.
Â
"The improvement in the RPI is a testament to the student-athletes and their drive to be better. They've wanted to take on new challenges and haven't been afraid to stumble along the way as they go through the growth process. We're still very early in the process in terms of where the program was two years ago and where we're going, so all credit to our athletes."
Â
The Pack's non-conference schedule ranks as the fifth toughest in the NCAA and the overall schedule is rated 19th in the nation.
Â
NCSU has played three matches versus teams among the top 15 (#2 Florida, #11 Kansas [twice]) and six contests against top-30 teams (#21 Auburn, #26 Notre Dame and #27 Michigan).
Â
NC State returns to action Friday night against Wake Forest. First serve is slated for 8 p.m. inside Reynolds Coliseum and the match will be broadcast live on Regional Sports Networks (RSN).
