
Pack Tied for First; Franken Leads Individual After Two Rounds of Wolfpack Intercollegiate

RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State men's golf team is tied for first place and junior Stephen Franken is on top of the individual leaderboard after Monday's action at the Wolfpack Intercollegiate held at Lonnie Poole golf course.
The Pack are tied with UNC-Chapel Hill for first place. The two rivals were even all day on Monday as both squads fired identical rounds of 280 in the first and second round to sit in a tie at 16-under-par for the tournament. Campbell is in third place, six shots, behind the Pack and Tar Heels, while Loyola (Md.) is in fourth place, six shots behind the Camels.
Franken got off to hot start on Monday and never cooled off as he opened the day by birdieing six of the first seven holes. He fired an opening round 66 and then improved on his first round by shooting a 65 in the second round to hold the two round lead with a score of 13-under-par. The NC State junior is seven shots ahead of second place.
In the first two rounds, Franken birdied 17 of the 36 holes.
Next for the Pack is Nolan Mills Jr., with a two round score of two-under-par to sit in 12th place. Benjamin Shipp is one shot back of Mills in 16th place, while the Pack lineup is rounded out by Christian Salzer in a tie for 41st and freshman Easton Paxton in a tie for 45th.
Competing as individuals, Justin Hood and Harrison Rhoades are in a tie for 25th place at even-par, while Dwight Cauthen rounds out the Pack contingent in 73rd place.
Tuesday's third and final round begins at 8 a.m. NC State's lineup will begin play at 9:30 a.m. on the first hole. The Pack's individual competitors – Hood, Rhoades and Cauthen – will begin play on the 10th hole starting at 8:54 a.m.
