RALEIGH, N.C. - Â After playing a starring role in the NC State football team's 35-17 victory over Pittsburgh on Saturday, junior Darian Roseboro has been nominated for the Capital One Orange Bowl-FWAA Courage Award.
Â
Roseboro's father, Johnny, passed away on Oct. 7, but Darian did not miss a day's practice, vowing to dedicate the game to his father.  Roseboro tallied a game-high three tackles for loss, a sack, a quarterback pressure and caused a fumble in the Wolfpack's fourth ACC victory.
The Wolfpack team wore stickers with "J.R." on their helmets in the contest in solidarity with their teammate, and head coach Dave Doeren gave Roseboro the game ball following the win.Â
"When I gave him the game ball, I told him that his father watched him and that we loved him," head coach Dave Doeren said following the game. "I'm really proud of him. I can't imagine how hard that was, to lose his father over the weekend and not miss a practice. That's pretty special."
First presented by the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) in 2002, criteria for nomination entails courage on or off the field, including overcoming an injury or physical handicap, preventing a disaster or living through hardship. During Capital One Orange Bowl week, the winner be included in festivities and will receive his trophy at an on-field presentation.
