
Galarneau & Ogden Bound for ITA Carolina Regional Semifinal Match

CARY, N.C. – Sophomore Alexis Galarneau and junior Michael Ogden defeated South Carolina's Wood Benton and Yancy Dennis 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (7) in the ITA Carolina Regional doubles quarterfinal Monday afternoon. The win advanced the pair to the doubles semifinal, which will be played Tuesday at the Cary Tennis Park.
HIGHLIGHTS:
Galarneau and Ogden's matchup with the Gamecocks proved to be a test. The 14th-ranked Wolfpack duo struggled to hold serve at the end of the first set and dropped it by a 6-3 score.
Despite being broken twice more in the second set, Galarneau and Ogden showed great resilience and continued to find ways to bounce back. They earned three breaks of their own, all on deciding points, and took the second set 6-4.
In the super tiebreaker for the third set, Galarneau and Ogden jumped out to a 4-2 lead. Benton and Dennis stuck around, ultimately taking a 7-6 lead, but the Wolfpack earned a timely mini-break to go up 8-7 and served the match out to a 10-7 decision in the breaker.
UP NEXT:
ITA Carolina Regional action will conclude Tuesday with Galarneau and Ogden competing against Duke's Sean Sculley and Nick Stachowiak at 11 a.m. The winners of that match will turn around to play for the title at 1 p.m.
