RALEIGH, N.C. – Kasey Nelson will join the NC State Gymnastics team in the fall of 2017, as announced by head coach Mark Stevenson.
Nelson is a level 10 gymnast who trains at Georgia Elite Gymnastics in Athens, Ga., under coaches Pete Arenas, Kim Arenas, Doug McAvinn and Amber Stiles.
"We are extremely excited to have Kasey join program in the fall of 2017," said associate head coach Colleen Johnson. "She is extremely talented and can make immediate contributions for us on the beam and floor. She walks the beam with ease and is a great twister, which will bring variety to our squad. She's a bright student and an extremely gifted young lady that will be a great fit for our squad."
Nelson has a wealth of prep gymnastics experience, and has competed across the country in several high profile meets and has excelled locally in her home state of Georgia. In 2016, Nelson competed at the National Gymnastics Challenge where she took second on both beam and floor.
In 2015, Nelson finished third in the all-around and first on balance beam at the Atlanta Crown Invitational. At the Made in the USA Invitational, she grabbed gold medals on uneven bars, balance beam, floor exercise and in the all-around. At the Georgia State Championships, Nelson finished second in the all-around and first on balance beam and floor exercise. She concluded her season at the Region 8 Championships, finishing 13th in the all-around and sixth on balance beam.
Kasey Jorden Nelson was born on May 28, 1999 in Atlanta, Ga. She is the second child of three to David and Melanie Nelson. She has an older sister, Rylie and a younger brother, Ryan.
Currently, Nelson is a senior at Marietta High School where she is in the International Baccalaureate (IB) Program. During Kasey's spare time, she enjoys baking and paddle boarding.
