
Men’s Tennis Hosts Weekend Trio

RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State men's tennis team will host three opponents over the weekend, welcoming Troy Friday and Elon and Monmouth Sunday. The Wolfpack will play all three matches at J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center as well as host a neutral-site match between Elon and Monmouth Sunday at 1 p.m.
Weekend Schedule:
Troy, Friday, Jan. 20th 3 p.m.
Monmouth, Sunday, Jan. 22nd 10 a.m.
Monmouth vs. Elon, Jan. 22nd 1 p.m.
Elon, Sunday, Jan 22nd 4:30 p.m.
Opening-Weekend Results:
NC State went 2-1 during the opening weekend of play. The Pack dropped a tough match to an experienced ODU squad before bouncing back for two dominant 7-0 victories over The Citadel.
Igor Saveljic is currently leads the squad with a 3-0 record. The sophomore earned a come-from-behind win against ODU before winning a pair of straight-set matches against The Citadel.
After Monday's doubleheader, Sean Burnette, Georgiy Malyshev, Chris Mikrovas, Michael Ogden and Ivan Saveljic have all won two-consecutive singles matches.
Scouting Troy:
Troy enters the match with a 2-1 record. The Trojans suffered an early loss to Georgia State, but have wins over South Alabama and Mercer. Hassan Ndayishimiye leads the Trojans at the No. 1 singles spot. NC State is 2-0 against Troy all time. The Pack earned a 4-1 win against the Trojans last season in Raleigh.
Scouting Monmouth:
Monmouth enters the weekend after a 6-1 season-opening loss at Temple. Sunday's match will be the first meeting between the two programs. The Hawks will bring in an experienced team with three seniors.
Scouting Elon:
Elon suffered a season-opening 6-1 loss to Duke over the weekend. Elon won the doubles point, but fell in all six singles matches. The Phoenix featured many familiar faces, including the No. 42 ranked duo of Neal Port and Salvador Mijares. NC State faced Elon in fall matches at the ITA Carolina Regional and the Wolfpack Invite. The Pack is 7-0 all time against Elon with the last win coming in 2016.
Record Watch:
Nick Horton has won at least 20 matches in each of his first three years with the Pack. He's already up to 11th in school history in total singles wins with 72. Horton can move up the ranks in program history this season. His 73rd win will move him into a tie for 10th and his 75th win will move him into a tie for eighth place in all-time singles wins.
Horton, Galarneau Ranked by ITA:
Both Horton and Alexis Galarneau were selected to the first ITA/Oracle singles poll of the spring season. Horton checked in at a team-high No. 37 to move up two spots from his fall ranking, while Galarneau will begin his freshman spring campaign ranked No. 103.
