
McGee Wins Cary Tennis Championships

CARY, N.C. - Former Wolfpack tennis star James Mcgee won eight consecutive matches en route to his first ever ATP Challenger title at the Cary Tennis Championships Sunday afternoon. McGee, ranked No. 257 in the world, knocked off No. 175 Ernesto Escobedo, in a come-from-behind 1-6, 6-1, 6-4 win.

The Irishman advanced from the qualifying draw into the main draw and defeated a pair of top-200 opponents in a row to clinch the win. He knocked off the top overall seed and World No. 175 Escobedo on Saturday to make the final.

McGee will likely return to the ATP top-200 standings after the wins. He was an All-ACC selection in 2008 and has been ranked as high as No. 146 in the World.
