2016 #PackCamp: Practice No. 3
8/3/2016 2:51:00 PM | Football
RALEIGH, N.C. - The Pack held practice No. 3 of 2016 #PackCamp Wednesday morning.
Transcript of head coach Dave Doeren's postpractice comments on Wednesday:
First Day in Pads
It was good to have shoulder pads on and see how they competed. It was an up and down day – both sides made plays against each other. It was fun to see how guys would respond. Nyheim [Hines] had some drops at the beginning and then made three catches at the end there. It's a good sign when you see young guys make mistakes and then respond and make up for it.
Â
Both quarterbacks did some good things. I thought the offensive line and the defensive line went back and forth today.Â
Â
On Wide Receivers:
They've got a lot of work to do. Bra'Lon [Cherry] is the most consistent, but you'd expect that. He's a four-year player for us. Nyheim can make some plays. Maurice Trowell made some nice plays and it was good to see that. We've got to get Steph [Louis] going a little bit. He hasn't done much in camp. He's a guy who had a really good spring for us.
Â
On losing Jumichael Ramos to injury
It's always a big deal when you lose a senior, especially a tough kid like him. His production. He's a great jumpball guy for us who makes tough catches. He's a competitior. So any time you lose a guy like that it hurts. The next man in is Steph. Kelvin Harmon is going to get a chance to learn how to play. Between Steph and Bra'Lon Cherry and Trowell, Kelvin … we've got guys who can catch the ball.
Â
On the progress of the defensive line
There's good depth and strength. Fundamentally and maturity-wise the defensive line is way ahead of where they were before. They're getting mad at themselves for little things they didn't know existed before. So it's like teaching an upper level class, I guess. It's fun to see that.
Our offensive line's got their hands full every day. So they've got to come out here and work hard. And they did. They didn't do everything right, but they worked hard.
Â
On defensive tackle Justin Jones
He's doing good. He's missed so much time with different nagging injuries that just to have him every day – he needs to have that consistent condition level so he can be great every day when he's tired.
