
NC State Falls at South Carolina

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The NC State women's soccer team (1-2-0) fell to South Carolina (2-0-1) on Thursday night, 3-0. The Gamecocks, who are receiving votes in the NSCAA Poll, scored a pair of quick goals in the first half and added a third on a counter in the second half to clinch the win. The Pack threatened the South Carolina goal throughout the match, but was unable to find the back of the net.
Michaella van Maanen led the Wolfpack with a pair of shots. Tziarra King, Kia Rankin and Jackie Stengel all recorded a shot, and the Pack's offense earned four corner kicks. In goal, Sydney Wootten made a pair of saves before freshman Grayson Cameron made her NC State debut in the 58th minute and closed out the match for the Pack.

South Carolina struck quickly for a 2-0 lead with goals in the 12th and 19th minutes. The first goal came off a counter attack from the right flank when a cross found the head of a South Carolina attacker. The hosts doubled its lead off a corner kick five minutes later.
To close out the half, NC State regained possession and created scoring opportunities, as it tallied a pair of close chances, including a volley from the inside of the box, which forced the South Carolina keeper to make a diving save.
Out of halftime, NC State pushed forward looking for a goal. After a Wolfpack corner kick was cleared, South Carolina was able to break away and score the third goal in the 55th minute.
NC State continued to press late into the half and forced saves from the Gamecock's keeper. Rachel Cox was pulled down on a breakaway in the 78th minute, however, the ensuing free kick was saved to keep the Pack off the scoreboard.
