Franken Qualifies for 116th U.S. Amateur Championship

RALEIGH – Rising sophomore Stephen Franken of the NC State men's golf team earned a competition spot at the 116th U.S. Amateur Championship earlier this month.
The Raleigh native took top honors at the sectional qualifying tournament at Willowbrook Country Club in Apollo, Pa., finishing six strokes under par with a final score of 136. Franken defeated his nearest competitor by three strokes.
In addition to leading the Wolfpack as a freshman during the 2015-16 season with a stroke average of 71.8 per 18 holes, Franken earned PING All-Region East Team honors and claimed a spot on the All-ACC Academic Team.
The 116th U.S. Amateur Championship will be played August 15-21 at Oakland Hills Country Club in Bloomfield Township, Mich.
