Wolfpack garners team GPA of 3.475 for the 2015-16 academic year
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Following a stellar year in the classroom, the NC State volleyball team has earned the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award, as announced by the organization.
"I'm extremely proud of our team for their hard work in the classroom," said head coach Linda Hampton-Keith. "This recognition by the AVCA is an honor to each of our athletes and the work they put in to being great every day. They're the epitome of what it means to be student-athletes."
The award, which began during the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade point average (GPA) on a 4.0 scale.
Wolfpack volleyball players combined to record a team GPA of 3.475 for the year, highlighted by perfect 4.0s from rising sophomores Sarah Konchan and Becky Porter.
In addition, each returning student-athlete on the 2016 roster charted a cumulative GPA better than 3.1 for the year, including six players with a 3.5 or better.
NC State is one of five schools in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) to garner the mention, along with Duke, Florida State, Louisville and Virginia Tech. In total, 131 division I programs received the honor.
The Pack opens the 2016 campaign Aug. 26 against Northwestern State in the TCU Invitational hosted by the Horned Frogs in Fort Worth, Texas.
