
@PackWrestle Starts Offseason Tournaments Strong

RALEIGH, N.C. - With the 2015-16 season just wrapped up, the NC State wrestling team returned to the mats this past weekend with 11 current members competing at the East Stroudsburg Northeast Regional in freestyle wrestling.
Redshirt-sophomore Malik McDonald took top honors at 97 kg. He went 3-0 with a technical fall, a 15-11 win, and closed with a fall in the finals.
Junior Nicky Hall was runner-up at 86 kg with a 3-1 mark. Redshirt-senior Lee Davis also finished second, with a 4-1 mark at 80 kg. Redshirt-junior Robbie Rizzolino was also 4-1, and placed second at 65 kg.
Senior Pete Renda placed third, as he was 5-1 at 86 kg with four tech falls and a pin, and redshirt-senior Mike Kosoy finished 3rd at 125 kg with a 5-1 record, as he beat two NCAA qualifiers.
Incoming freshman Hayden Hidlay took home top honors at 70 kg. He went 5-0 on the day, beat 4 NCAA qualifiers, including one All-American and the No. 4 seed at 149 pounds in this years NCAA Championships.
Former Pack wrestler, two-time NCAA Qualifier Joe DeAngleo took first place at 57kg with two technical falls and a 6-5 win over a former All-American.
In addition, a pair of incoming freshmen earned spots on the UWW Junior World Team in Greco-Roman. Nick Reenan and Mike Rogers both won their weight classes and now advance to the World Championships which will take place in France.
Both were in action at the UWW Junior Nationals in Las Vegas. Reenan took top honors in the 84kg weight class, winning his championship bouts 8-4 and then 10-4. Rogers was first at 120kg, winning 14-6 and then 11-1 in the championship series.

Two athletes who are finishing high school at Wyoming Seminary and have both signed with NC State were also champions and UWW Junior World Team members, Nick Reenan of the Dallas Dynamite WC at 84 kg/185 lbs. and Michael Rogers of Bison Legend WC at 120 kg/264.5 lbs.
In a battle of 2015 Junior Nationals Greco-Roman champions, Reenan defeated Wyatt Koelling of the Champions WC in two straight. He won the first match, 8-4 and the second match 10-4. Last year, Reenan was the Fargo champion at 182, while Koelling won at 195 pounds. Reenan was a member of the 2014 U.S. Cadet Greco-Roman Team.
Rogers, who was sixth at last year's Junior Nationals defeated 2015 Cadet Nationals champion Nicholas Boykin of Murfreesboro in two straight matches, both technical falls. Rogers won the first match 14-6 and the second match 11-1.
