#PackPros: 2016 NFL Draft Recap
5/2/2016 11:29:00 AM | Football
• NC State had three players selected in the 2016 NFL Draft. OL Joe Thuney and QB Jacoby Brissett went in the third round to the New England Patriots (14 picks apart), and CB Juston Burris was taken in the fourth round to the N.Y. Jets.
• Among ACC schools, only defending champion Clemson had more players drafted than NC State's three players.
• NC State was the only ACC team in the state of North Carolina to have a player drafted in 2016.
• NC State is one of just two schools (Michigan State) to have three quarterbacks drafted in the last five NFL drafts and one of just eight to even have more than one QB drafted in that span. Additionally, dating back to 2004, NC State has had four QBs drafted and all four have been a third round selection or better.
• Joe Thuney was the first ACC offensive lineman selected in the 2016 NFL Draft, while Jacoby Brissett was the first league quarterback taken. Brissett was the fourth QB taken overall.
• Juston Burris is the third NC State cornerback selected in the last four NFL drafts - all were fourth round or better selections.
• 2016 marks the first draft since 2012 that an NFL team selected a pair of former Wolfpack players in the same draft - Seattle chose Russell Wilson (third round) and J.R. Sweezy (seventh round) in 2012.
• 2016 marked only the second time in school history an NFL team selected two Wolfpack players in the same round. In 1976, the N.Y. Jets drafted two NC State players (Dave and Don Buckey) in the 12th round. Overall, 2016 was the seventh time an NFL team selected a pair of former Wolfpack players in the same draft.
• NC State also had three former players sign as undrafted fee agents Saturday night. David J. Grinnage (TE) signed with the Green Bay Packers, Mike Rose (DE) signed with the N.Y. Giants, and Quinton Schooley (OL) signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
• Of NC State's nine scholarship seniors that finished the 2016 season, three were drafted and an additional three have signed as undrafted free agents.
