Rising senior named to the Division I First Team
RALEIGH- Rising senior Alexia Zevnik of the NC State women's swimming and diving team was honored for her excellence in the pool and classroom Thursday afternoon, as she was named to the 2016 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Women's At-Large Team.
Recognizing the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom, Zevnik is one of 12 in the third district to be named to the Division I first team.
In the classroom the Lasalle, Canada, native and three-time All-ACC Academic Team selection holds a 3.866 cumulative GPA and is majoring in business administration and biological sciences.Â
An eight time All-American at NC State Zevnik played a versatile role among the women's squad in the 2015-16 season, as she holds school records in four individual events and three relays. At the 2016 NCAA Championship she helped the 400 and 800 freestyle and 400 medley relay teams collect All-America honors and garnered top-eight finishes in the 100 and 200 backstroke.
Zevnik also helped the 400 freestyle relay squad earn its second-straight ACC Championship title and earned runner-up finishes in the backstroke events and 200 individual medley at this year's conference championship.Â
A 2016 Canadian Olympic Trials participant, she was recently selected to compete for Canada at the World Short Course Championships in December.
All First-Team Academic All-District honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first, second and third team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
