Junior collects her first all-conference mention
GREENSBORO, N.C. – NC State softball's Molly Hutchison has been named to the 2016 All-ACC team, announced Thursday by the league office. With her selection, the Wolfpack has placed at least one player on the team in each of the past five seasons.
Â
A native of San Diego, Calif., Hutchison turned in a stellar junior season to secure a spot on the All-ACC Second Team, starting all 56 games and finished the year with a .329 batting average. She collected a career-best 51 runs batted in (RBI), the highest total on the team, tied for third most in program history and ranks among the top 10 in the ACC at the conclusion of the regular season.
Â
In addition, she tallied the second-most hits on the team with 55, highlighted by 11 home runs, eight doubles and her first career triple. Hutchison had a slugging percentage of .587 and an on-base percentage of .446, second best on the team in both categories.
Â
Hutchison was at her best in conference play, charting a team-best .319 batting average to go along with 22 hits. She clubbed seven home runs, the most on the Wolfpack in conference play and tied for second among conference players. Her 26 RBI in ACC play was the fifth-best total in the league.
Â
NC State's starting catcher turned in 15 multi-RBI games, 14 multi-hit games, had an 10-game hitting streak and reached base safely in 12 consecutive games during the season.
Â
Hutchison was named ACC Player of the Week on March 7, following a standout week at the plate in which she compiled a .667 batting average with eight hits, seven RBI and six runs scored. She became just the second player in NC State softball history to collect USA Softball Collegiate National Player of the Week honors, one day after being named ACC Player of the Week.
Â
A clutch performer for the Pack, Hutchison had a .600 batting average with the bases loaded, .393 average with runners in scoring position and a .340 clip with two outs.
