TEMPE, Ariz. – Junior standout Martina Frantova of the No. 35 NC State women's tennis team was named the 2015-16 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Carolina Region Player to Watch by a committee of the region's Division I coaches, as announced by the ITA office Monday afternoon.Â

This award comes shortly after Frantova received a bid to the 2016 NCAA Singles Championship, becoming the fourth player in program history to garner a selection.

The 45th-ranked player heads into national postseason competition boasting a 14-10 dual record at the No. 1 position at which she collected eight victories over nationally-ranked opponents during the regular season. Frantova captured three of those wins during the final week of regular-season play, helping to earn her ACC Co-Player of the Week and All-ACC Second Team honors.

Six out of eight of the awards distributed among the Carolina Region were allocated to athletes. Five of those award recipients are members of the ACC, including No. 45 Frantova, No. 37 Beatrice Capra of No. 9 Duke and No. 41 Whitney Kay of No. 3 North Carolina.

Frantova and the entire Wolfpack team will begin play at the NCAA Regional Friday when it faces No. 23 Arizona State for first-round action in Auburn, Ala.
