
No. 41 Wolfpack Defeats No. 75 Miami, 4-3

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The No. 41 NC State men's tennis team picked up a big, 4-3, win over No. 75 Miami on Friday afternoon at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center. NC State improves to 17-11 (5-5 ACC) while Miami moves to 7-11 (2-7 ACC).
Thomas Weigel picked up a historical win for the Pack with his 21st victory of the spring. He moves to 2nd in school history for most wins in a single spring season.
The match marked a return to the lineup for freshman Michael Ogden, who earned a big doubles win to clinch the opening point.
Match Recap:
NC State earned a big point from the doubles spot, winning its first doubles point in three matches. The senior duo of Weigel and Simon Norenius dominated at the top spot, winning 6-0. Ogden returned to the doubles lineup for the Pack and helped secure the point, earning a 6-4 decision with partner Nick Horton from the second spot in the lineup.
Ogden is now up to 11 doubles wins this spring season, while Horton and Norenius each have 14. Weigel leads the team with 15 doubles victories.
In singles play, The Pack and Hurricanes split the opening matches early on. Weigel and Horton led the way for the Pack. No. 93 Horton increased the lead to 2-0 after a dominant 6-3, 6-4 victory over Jesse Flores.
Miami answered on the lower courts, defeating Igor Saveljic on court four and Chris Mikrovas on court five to level the match at, 2-2.
No. 119 Weigel answered with a 6-4, 6-4 victory from the second spot in the lineup. The historical win moves him to 21-5 this season and up to 85 career wins. The senior is just one win away from breaking into the program's top-five lists in total wins.
Miami leveled the match at 3-3, as No. 55 Norenius was defeated on court one. He fell to No. 43 Piotr Lomacki, 6-3, 7-6.
With the pressure on, Ivan Saveljic dropped his second set. In the third set, the true freshman fell behind 3-2, but rallied to win four of the next six games to clinch the victory.
Up Next:
NC State faces top-25 foe Florida State Sunday at noon. The match will be the last road-contest of the year for the Pack.
