Down 5-0, NC State baseball scored 11 unanswered to beat the Deacs
The Wolfpack (21-9, 6-5 ACC) fell behind 4-0 in the second. In the fifth, Wake Forest (19-13, 5-8) tacked on another to make it 5-0. NC State answered with five runs in the fifth, jumpstarted by a Brock Deatherage two-run shot to right, then pasted five more on the scoreboard during the pivotal sixth, which included Joe Dunand's grand slam to left. The Pack added one in the eighth to make it 11 unanswered, before Wake's two-run ninth set the final 11-7.
Dunand led the way with four RBIs and three runs in a 2-for-5 outing with his second homer of the year. Deatherage reached base in his 25th-consecutive game, scoring once and driving in a pair. Andrew Knizner submitted his fourth three-hit performance of the season, going 3-for-4 with two runs.
Josh McLain went 2-for-5 scoring twice with a double. Preston Palmeiro drove in one and scored once. Shane Shepard doubled and walked once. Evan Mendoza singled and stole his second bag of the year. Xavier LeGrant started at second, going 2-for-4 with a run, a walk, and a double.
Wolfpack starter Johnny Piedmonte left in the second. Austin Staley followed him with 2 1/3 innings of one-hit ball, fanning four and walking none. Karl Keglovits (1-0) drew the win on two innings, allowing one unearned run on two hits, punching out two and walking one. Tommy DeJuneas collected his sixth save of the year with two earned over three innings on four hits, ringing up five, including four of his first five batters faced.
