RALEIGH, N.C. - No. 13 NC State baseball breezed to a 7-3 win over Charlotte on Wednesday night at Doak Field at Dail Park.
The Wolfpack (20-9) took command early on Andrew Knizner's first-inning RBI, then added two in the second and one in the third. NC State scored again in the sixth before Charlotte (13-17) answered with one in the seventh and two in the eighth, narrowing the margin to 5-3. The Pack tacked on two in the eighth to set the final 7-3.
Brock Deatherage led the way, scoring twice with two stolen bases in a 2-for-3 outing to reach base in his 24th-consecutive game. Chance Shepard had the Pack's only other multi-hit effort, going 2-for-3 with two runs, an RBI, and his seventh double of the year.
Josh McLain contributed a single and swiped two bags. Joe Dunand doubled for the 10th time this season, supplying an RBI. Preston Palmeiro scored twice without a hit, reaching on a walk and hit by pitch. Brett Kinneman started in left and drove in three, scoring once in a 1-for-3 outing with a double and a walk. Evan Mendoza's RBI pushed the last Wolfpack run across.
