CHICAGO – Jackie Stengel of the NC State women's soccer team has been selected to compete at the United States U23 Women's National Team camp in Charlottesville, Va., from May 1-7, U.S. Soccer announced Monday.
Â
"I'm thrilled for Jackie and she's very deserving of this," NC State head coach Tim Santoro said. "She's been a big part of our rebuilding process the last few years and her hard work has shown with call-ups to the U20s and now the U23s. More rewards will come for her this fall and beyond."
Â
Stengel led the Wolfpack in scoring last season with five goals and is the program's current active career scoring leader with 14, including four match-winners. The Melbourne, Fla., native was named to the All-ACC Third Team and All-ACC Freshman Team following a 2013 campaign which saw her lead the Wolfpack in goals (9), points (19), shots (45), and shots on goal (23). She appeared in three matches during the 2014 season before sitting out the rest of the year—and earning a medical redshirt—due to an injury.
Â
Poised to begin her redshirt junior season this fall, Stengel was called up by U.S. Soccer in November of 2013, helping the U20s prepare for the CONCACAF Championship. In December, she was asked to stay on with the side for further training.
Â
Stengel and the Wolfpack open the 2016 season against La Salle (August 19) and San Diego (Aug. 21) in a tournament hosted by Wake Forest University. A complete season schedule will be released in the near future.
