
Pack Gymnastics Sweeps EAGL Weekly Awards

BALTIMORE- The NC State gymnastics team continues to make its #STATEment in 2016 as the program swept this week's EAGL weekly awards, as announced by the league office Tuesday morning.

Brittni Watkins was named EAGL Gymnast of the Week, Michaela Woodford won EAGL Specialist of the Week while Paris Phillips tabbed EAGL Rookie of the Week.

This marks the fifth consecutive week that NC State has garnered a weekly award and the second-straight week Watkins and Woodford earned their respective honor. Watkins now holds nine weekly honors in her career while Woodford holds four.

In its last time out, the Wolfpack earned its fourth win over a top-25 opponent this season as it defeated former No. 21 George Washington on the road, 196.175-195.800. The team's total marked a season high and stands as the 13th-highest score in program history.

Watkins earned wins on vault (9.875), floor (9.900) and the all-around competition (39.425) for the second week in a row, and tied for second on bars (9.800) and fourth on beam (9.850). Her floor performance marked the fourth time in 2016 that she has posted a score of 9.9 or higher in the event.

Woodford earned top-six finishes in the three events she competed, as she tied for second on bars (9.800), fourth on beam (9.850) and sixth on floor (9.825). Additionally, her beam performance matched her career high on the rotation.

For Phillips, this marks the first conference honor of her career as she posted a career-high score of 9.775 on vault and matched her career best on floor with a 9.825. She tied for fourth on vault and sixth on floor in the overall standings.

The Pack returns to action this weekend when it hosts Ball State for its Senior Day March 12 inside Holliday Gym at Broughton High School. The meet is set for a 4 p.m. start.
