No. 17 Pack Tops Charlotte, 7-1

NC State baseball defeated Charlotte on Tuesday night in front of 7,438 at BB&T Ballpark
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - No. 17 NC State baseball won 7-1 on Tuesday night against Charlotte, before 7,438 at BB&T Ballpark, home of the Triple-A Charlotte Knights.
The first three Wolfpack (17-8) batters of the game reached on two walks bookending a hit batter. Following a pair of strikeouts, Stephen Pitarra scored on a wild pitch during an inning-ending play at third.Â
The Pack loaded them up again in the fourth, scoring three on Joe Dunand's single to left. Chance Shepard plated Pitarra in the fifth on a one-out single through the left side. Pitarra drove in Brock Deatherage during the eighth.Â
Deatherage pushed Knizner across with a bases loaded hit by pitch in the ninth. Charlotte (12-13) scored one on an RBI double to right center, setting the final 7-1.Â
Wolfpack starter Brian Brown (3-0) scored the win on a prearranged short outing, leaving with a no-hitter through three innings, walking one and fanning three.Â
Johnny Piedmonte followed him and extended the no-no bid an inning, walking one. Ryan Williamson pitched two shutout innings, punching out three, walking one, and allowing two hits. Staley retired both batters he faced, one on a called strike three. Beckman retired the next. Will Gilbert allowed one hit and fanned a pair in an inning.
