NC State Splits Sunday Doubleheader

RALEIGH, N.C. – The No. 33 NC State men's tennis team fell to No. 2 North Carolina, 5-2, then defeated Campbell, 7-0, in the final match of the day. The Wolfpack moves to 13-10 on the season after the doubleheader.

NC State fell in the opening match to second-ranked North Carolina, 5-2. NC State defeated UNC's top two singles players, but fell on the lower courts and in the doubles matches.

No. 73 Simon Norenius defeated No. 12 Ronnie Schneider on court 1, winning 6-2, 6-3. Thomas Weigel topped No. 38 Brayden Schnur, 7-5, 6-2. UNC took wins on courts 3 through 6 and won the doubles matches.

NC State has now defeated North Carolina's top-two singles players in both matches they have played this season.

The match marked the Pack's hardest stretch of the season, facing No. 1 Virginia and No. 2 UNC in back-to-back matches. NC State has faced six teams this season that currently hold a top-10 ranking.

In the second match of the day, the Wolfpack dispatched Campbell with a 7-0 win. NC State's doubles teams of Ivan Saveljic and Igor Saveljic earned a win on court one and Thomas Weigel and Simon Norenius won on court two to clinch the doubles point.

In singles play, the Pack swept the Camels in straight sets on the first four courts. Chris Mikrovas and Michael Ogden played in an alternative format in the final two matches, due to the match being clinched.

Weigel earned a team-leading 18^th spring-season win with both of today's singles wins. He is two wins away from cracking the top-10 lists in spring-season victories. The senior has at least nine more regular season matches and the championships season to increase his win total.

The senior also picked up his 58th doubles win of his career and 12^th of the season.

Norenius is up to 16 dual season wins and 23 total wins this season.
