
No. 40 NC State Opens ACC Play This Weekend

RALEIGH, N.C. –The No. 40 NC State men's tennis team will look to get back on track as it opens ACC play with No. 53 Virginia Tech Friday at 3 p.m. and No. 7 Wake Forest Sunday at 1 p.m. The Wolfpack enters conference play with an 11-6 record and hold wins over three ranked teams this season.

Captains Leading the Way:
Simon Norenius, Thomas Weigel and Nick Horton have been cornerstones for the team this spring. The trio has played extremely well in singles. All three have wins over ranked opponents and have at least 10 wins this dual season, while playing at the top of the lineup.
Norenius has four wins over ranked opponents and has won 10 straight matches. He ranked No. 83 in the nation. Horton is ranked No. 72 and boats a 10-2 record and is on a three-match win streak. Weigel is 13-2 this season and on a four-match winning streak.
Scouting Virginia Tech:
Virginia Tech is ranked No. 53 and enters the match with a 7-2 record. The Hookies have a pair of singles players and one doubles team ranked in ITA polls. Joao Monteiro leads the Hookies at No. 20 and Edoardo Tessaro rounds out the rankings at No. 76. Monteiro and Andreas Bjerrehus are ranked No. 12 in the doubles top-60 list.
Virginia Tech leads the series with a 13-7 record. The Pack has split its last two contests with VT, winning, 4-3 in 2014, but dropping a 4-3 result in 2015. The last three matches of the series have all ended with a 4-3 score.

Wake Forest enters as the nation's No. 7 team. Wake has three athletes ranked in the top-125 singles rankings. Skander Mansouri leads the way at No. 25, followed by No. 34 Petros Chrysochos and No. 113 Romain Bogaerts. In doubles, Christian Seraphim and Skander Mansouri lead Wake and are ranked No. 21. Romain Bogaerts and Maksim Kan are ranked No. 28.
Wake enters the weekend with a 12-3 record. The Demon Deacons recently wrapped up a 3-1 weekend with a loss to Texas, a win over Texas Tech and two wins over Norfolk State.
Wake holds a 44-14-1 lead over the Pack in the overall series, but NC State has the last win in the rivalry. Last year, the Pack upset then-ranked No. 12 Wake in Raleigh, 4-3.
Toughest Conference in the Nation:
NC State has faced its share of highly-ranked opponents already this season, taking on three current top-10 teams. The schedule has prepared the Pack for a challenging conference slate which includes another top-10 opponent this weekend. Overall the ACC has eight ranked teams including No. 1 North Carolina, No. 2 Virginia and No. 7 Wake Forest.

NC State had a difficult weekend, dropping matches to UNCW, Texas Tech, ODU, but defeating UNC-G 6-1 in the final match of the weekend to enter ACC play on a one-match win streak.
