Four different Wolfpackers hit a home run in the contest
The Wolfpack moves to 6-6 on the season, while the 25th-ranked Golden Bears fall to 6-4.
Turning Point
- NC State escaped a bases loaded jam with no outs in the bottom of the sixth to swing the momentum in the contest.
- Sophomore Harli Hubbard gloved a ground ball back to the circle, fired home to Cheyenne Balzer, who fired to first base to complete the 1-2-3 double play.
- The Wolfpack received a fortuitous bounce on a wild pitch, as it careened back to Balzer who applied the tag to the runner trying to score from third base to end the inning.
Play of the Game
- NC State turned its second double play of the game to seal the victory.
- Lana Van Dyken fielded a ground ball at shortstop, flipped to Molly Martin at second base for the first out and then on to Meredith Burroughs at first base for the 6-4-3 double play to end it.
Quick Hits
- NC State started fast against California, as Tyler Ross deposited the second pitch of the ballgame over the fence in right center for a leadoff home run.
- It was Ross' team-leading sixth homer of the season and gave the Wolfpack a 1-0 lead.
- The Golden Bears countered in the bottom of the frame with a pair of runs, following RBI singles by Kobie Pettis and Kylie Reed.
- Hanna Sommer put NC State back out front in the top of the third, 3-2, with a massive two-run homer to deep center field, easily clearing the fence for her second round-tripper of the year.
- California knotted the score in the bottom of the inning with an unearned run scored as a result of a passed ball.
- NC State tacked on two runs in the fifth inning to take a 5-3 lead after Meredith Burroughs launched her fifth homer of the season, a two-run blast to deep right field.
- Maggie Hawkins joined the home run parade for the Wolfpack in the top of the seventh with a two-run blast over the right field fence to give NC State a 7-3 advantage.
- Cal rallied in the bottom of the seventh, but was only able to score two runs as NC State held on for the 7-5 win.
