
Pack Athletes Compete at USATF Olympic Marathon Trials

LA – Five former NC State athletes ran at the USATF Olympic Marathon Trials Saturday in Los Angles. The race featured 457 athletes (211 men & 246 women) who ran along the streets of Los Angles in the grueling heat.
Former runner and current volunteer assistant Stephen Furst was the highest finishing Wolfpack male, crossing the finish line in 44th in 2:26.42.
Joanna Thompson led the women with a 98th-place finish in 2:54.36. The race marked Thompson's first ever full marathon.
Matt Sonnefeldt, Andie Cozzarelli and Kelly Calway also competed in the race.
Gallen Rupp, Meb Keflezighi and Jared Ward earned the Olympic roster spots as the top three finishers. Rupp crossed the finish line in 2:11.13, while Keflezighi and Ward followed in 2:12.20 and 2:13.00, respectively.
On the women's side, Amy Cragg won the race in 2:28.27, while Desiree Linden (2:29.00) and Shalane Flanagan (2:29.20) earned the Olympic spots on the women's side.
