RALEIGH, N.C. – The 32nd-ranked NC State men's tennis team placed two student-athletes in the latest Oracle/ITA Collegiate Tennis Division I Men's Singles Rankings, which dropped Wednesday afternoon.
Both Nick Horton and Simon Norenius made their debuts in the rankings, checking in at 53rd and 74th, respectively. Both players earned wins over ranked opponents and have earned crucial match points at the top of the line up for the Wolfpack (7-2).
Horton earned his ranking, while splitting time between the top spots in the line up. Two weeks ago, the Australian defeated then 13th-ranked Ronnie Schneider on UNC's home court. Horton won convincingly in straight sets.
Over the weekend, the junior played at the No. 1 singles spot for the Pack, facing Dartmouth, South Carolina and Bryant's top singles player. Horton won all three matches in straight sets and improved to 6-1.
Norenius earned his ranking after recording a 7-1 duel season record, while splitting time between the top-two spots. The senior took down a pair of ranked opponents in last weekend's matches.
Norenius opened with a straight set win over then No. 18 Dovydas Sakinis of Dartmouth on Friday, before dispatching USC's No. 116 Alex Fennell.
Horton and Norenius both spent time in the polls last season.
NC State will be back in action with a doubleheader against Troy at 10 a.m. and Gardner Web at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 12th.
