NC State to host 17 home matches
2017 Spring Schedule
RALEIGH -- The NC State women's tennis team has released its 2017 spring competition schedule, as announced by head coach Simon Earnshaw on Monday. The schedule features 17 home matches and 11 away matches, including a trip to Malibu, Calif., for the ITA Kick-off Weekend.
"We decided this spring we want to beef up our schedule, as far as the type of teams we're playing, but also the number of teams," said Earnshaw.Â
Eighteen of the Wolfpack's 28 opponents were ranked in the top 50 at the conclusion of the 2016 spring season, including No. 4 North Carolina, No. 9 Pepperdine and No. 10 Miami.Â
Â
The season will start with a double-header against Appalachian State and Campbell on January 21. Following that, for the first time since Earnshaw has joined the Wolfpack, the team will head west for the ITA Kick-Off Weekend where it will play Arkansas, Pepperdine and UNLV.
In total, NC State will host 10 of its first 13 matches of the spring season.Â
"We start off with a lot of home matches outside of the Kick-Off, and hopefully that'll get us in a good frame of mind to get going with our ACC schedule, which, as usual, is going to be challenging. It certainly does not start easy with our rivalry matches against Duke and North Carolina toward the end of February."
Â
Outside of the ACC, the Wolfpack will take on teams such as William & Mary, Michigan State and Furman.
The season will conclude with the 2017 ACCÂ Championships in Rome, Ga., which runs April 26-30.
Â
Home matches are held at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center, are free of charge, and open to the public.
