Wolfpack junior led NC State to weekend sweep in state of Florida
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Following a stellar weekend for the NC State volleyball team in the state of Florida, junior outside hitter Julia Brown has been named Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Co-Player of the Week, as announced Monday by the league office.
Â
She shares the honor with UNC Chapel-Hill's Taylor Leath, while Duke's Samantha Amos garnered freshman of the week for a Triangle sweep.
Â
Brown helped NC State enjoy one of its best weekends in program history, as the Wolfpack tallied its first top-10 win at Florida State Friday night and followed that performance with its first-ever victory on Miami's home court Sunday afternoon.
Â
The Davidson, N.C., native swatted a match-high 21 kills against the 10th-ranked Seminoles and also had 13 digs to record her 12th double-double performance of the season. At Miami Sunday, Brown led the Wolfpack with 18 kills to go along with a .342 attacking percentage and three digs.
Â
For the weekend, she tallied 39 kills, averaging 4.33 kills per set, 4.44 points per set and 1.78 digs per set.
Â
Brown ranks third in the ACC individual rankings this year with 4.11 kills per set, which ranks 38th among the NCAA. Her 403 total kills on the year is second best in the conference and 33rd in the nation.
Â
The award is the second of her career and the season, as she claimed the honor on Oct. 24 after breaking the program record with 31 kills in NC State's win against Syracuse.
Â
NC State returns to action at home Friday night when it hosts the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets inside Reynolds Coliseum. First serve is slated for 7 p.m. and it will be broadcast live on the ACC Network Extra.
