
@PackWrestle Brings Home Three Titles From Southeast Open

Eight finish among top-6 in their weight classes
RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State wrestling team traveled to the Southeast Open on Sunday, competing in the first tournament of the 2016-17 season. Most of the Wolfpack competing were freshmen competing unattached.
NC State captured three titles on the day, and a total of eight NC State wrestlers finished sixth or better in their weight class.
Freshman Wade Cummings won the Freshman/Sophomore 125 pound weight class. Cummings started the day with an 8-4 and then a 9-4 win to reach the quarterfinals. He then scored his first bonus point win, 15-3, and then won 7-6 to reach the finals. In the championships match, Cummings came away with a 12-8 win.
Freshman Hayden Hidlay won the Freshman/Sophomore 157 pound weight class. Hidlay started his day with a pin and then a 7-4 win to reach the semifinals. He then scored a 14-1 major decision to advance to the finals, where he took top honors with a 5-2 win.
Freshman Thomas Bullard won the Freshman/Sophomore 165 pound weight class. Bullard made quick work of his first three bouts to reach the finals, as he recorded three straight first-period pins to reach the finals. In the championships match, Bullard scored a 5-1 victory.
Competing in the Open division at 133 pounds, returning NCAA Qualifier redshirt-sophomore Jamal Morris took third.
Also in the Freshman/Sophomore bracket: Freshman Tariq Wilson claimed third place honors at 133 pounds, freshman Kellen Devlin was fourth at 141 pounds, freshman Daniel Bullard was fifth at 165 pounds, and freshman Mike Rogers was sixth at 285 pounds.
The Pack's starters will be in action for the first time next weekend, as NC State will travel to Troy, N.Y., to wrestle in the Journeyman Classic next Sunday.
