Torin Dorn leads NC State with 17 points
The NC State men's basketball fell to Illinois, 88-74, Tuesday night at the State Farm Center in Champaign, Ill. The Pack is now 5-2 on the season.
Torin Dorn led the Pack with 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting. Dorn has now shot 60 percent or better from the field in six of seven games this season for the Pack. Dorn also tied for team-high honors with seven rebounds.
Abdul-Malik Abu (16), Ted Kapita (13) and Dennis Smith, Jr., (12) also reached double-figures for the Pack.
Markell Johnson added nine points off the bench, while Terry Henderson passed out a career-high five assists.
NC State led 33-32 at halftime, but Illinois shot 67.9 percent in the second half - after being held to 34.4 percent in the first half by the Pack - to seize control of the game. The Pack was down 74-67 with less than five minutes to play and had two cracks at cutting the lead to two possessions, but could not connect on a field goal and Illinois went on a 7-0 run from that point to effectively put the game out of reach.
The Pack finished the game shooting 52.8 percent from the field, but a season-high 19 turnovers cost NC State.
The Fighting Illini had a 17-10 lead midway through the first half, but NC State responded with a 23-10 run to take a 33-27 on a Terry Henderson three-pointer with 1:41 to go in the first half.
Malcolm Hill led four Illinois players in double figures with 22 points.
