Pack Gymnastics Tops EAGL Preseason Poll

Wolfpack to open season Jan. 8 vs. Florida in Reynolds
BALTIMORE-Â As the 2017 competition season approaches, the NC State gymnastics team enters the season at the top of the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Preseason Poll, announced Tuesday by the conference.Â
Based on a poll by the league's six head coaches, the Wolfpack received 31 points and three first-place votes. Head coaches were not allowed to vote for their team in the poll. George Washington was picked second with 29 points and two first-place votes, while New Hampshire rounded out the top three with 24 points and one first-place vote.
Last season the Pack finished fifth at the conference championship and sent three individuals to the NCAA Regional Championship: Chelsea Knight, Brittni Watkins and Nicole Wild. The team additionally finished 37th in the final national poll with a 195.375 RQS.
Knight and Wild are two of the 11 members from last year's squad that will return for the 2017 season, along with the addition of five freshmen.Â
The team will host a Red & White intrasquad meet Dec. 17 at 7 p.m. inside the newly renovated Reynolds Coliseum before officially opening its season Jan. 8 when it hosts Florida at 2 p.m. The Gators finished fourth at the 2016 NCAA Championship and won the national championship team title the previous three seasons.Â
