Wolfpack fires second best air rifle score of 2016
FAIRBANKS, Alaska – The 12th-ranked NC State rifle team fired its second-highest air rifle team score this season, but it was not enough as No. 10 Alaska earned the win, 4674-4647, Sunday afternoon inside the E.F. Horton Rifle Range.
The Wolfpack falls to 6-4 on the year, while the Nanooks move to 5-1.
Air Rifle Notes
- NC State fired its second-highest team score of the season in the air rifle competition with a tally of 2361 to Alaska's 2354 in the event.
- Olympian Lucas Kozeniesky charted the top mark in the discipline with a 597, highlighted by perfect 100s on his second, fifth and sixth series.
- Junior Caitlyn Ford took fourth place in air rifle, totaling a season-high score of 591 with 100s on her first and fourth series.
- Graduate student Lauren Phillips tallied a 590, including a 100 on the second series.
- Derya Pekari and William Marciniak rounded out the lineup for NC State with scores of 583 and 582, respectively.
- Additionally, freshman Claire Zanti competed in the event as a non-counting shooter, recording a mark of 587 with 100s on her second and third series.
Smallbore Notes
- Kozeniesky logged the Wolfpack's best score in the smallbore event with a 582 clip, headlined by a 99 in each of his series in prone.
- Marciniak earned a total of 573 as NC State's next result, while Phillips notched a 567.
- Ford charted a 564 and Pekari registered a 560, as the final members of the Pack's counting shooters.
- Also competing in the competition was Zanti with a mark of 567.
- As a team, NC State recorded a team score of 2286 in smallbore and Alaska fired a very strong score with a 2320 clip.
Aggregate Notes
- Kozeniesky turned in the second-best aggregate score of the contest with an 1179, matching his second-highest mark of the year.
