Women's Tennis Surges At ITA Carolina Regionals

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The NC State women's tennis team continued its strong performance at ITA Carolina Regionals with seven more wins on day three, giving the team 21 overall victories over the course of the event.Â
No. 29 Martina Frantova earned two singles wins on Saturday, moving her into the main draw quarterfinals. In consolation singles, Claudia Wiktorin and Adriana Reami both controlled their matches for easy victories against their second round and quarterfinal opponents to advance to the semifinals. In doubles play, Martina Frantova and Tayla Stenta looked strong once again, as the No. 24 pair moved on to the semifinal after an impressive win.

Doubles Action
No. 24 and top-seeded Frantova and Stenta notched the Wolfpack's first victory of the day, beating the ninth-seed Meible Chi and Alyssa Smith of Duke, 8-6,to advance to the quarterfinals on Sunday. No. 50 Bianca Moldovan and Wiktorin fell to 10th seed Rachel James-Baker and Chloe Ouellet-Pizer (UNC), 8-4.

Singles Action
The Wolfpack won six of nine singles matches on day three. In the main draw, No. 29 Frantova won her second round match against Anna Ulyashchenko (Wake Forest), 6-2, 6-2. In the third round, Frantova played a solid match to beat Cassandra Vasquez (UNC), 6-2, 6-3, to earn a spot in the quarterfinals. Last year, Frantova ended her run after a loss in the round of 16. Three NC State players concluded their singles action after losses in the round of 32 on Saturday. Amanda Rebol lost her first singles match of the season against Jessie Aney (UNC), 6-1, 6-0. Anna Rogers fell to Makenna Jones (UNC) in a 6-2, 6-3 match. Bianca Moldovan lost to Meible Chi (Duke), 6-0, 6-0. In the consolation draw, Claudia Wiktorin and Adriana Reami each earned two wins. Wiktorin topped Constanza Gorches of Clemson, 6-3, 6-1, in the second round to move on to the quarterfinals. There, she played Alexandra Andrivot (Campbell), securing a 6-1, 6-1 victory, to move into the semifinals. Reami defeated Rebecca Morse (Appalachian State), 6-0, 7-6(5), and Megan Scholvinck (Davidson), 6-0, 6-2, in the second round and quarterfinals, respectively. Reami will also move on to the quarterfinals.
