
Pack Falls in Overtime at #3 Clemson, 24-17

CLEMSON, S.C. - No. 3 Clemson scored on the opening possession of overtime, then picked off a NC State pass on the very next play to narrowly escape the Wolfpack's upset bid, 24-17 Saturday afternoon.
Tied 17-17 with 6:39 left, NC State marched down for a game winning 33-yard field goal attempt with just two seconds left, but Kyle Bambard's attempt pushed wide right sending the game into OT. Clemson started on offense, and capped their possession off with a TD pass from 10 yards out. On NC State's first play of OT, QB Ryan Finley looked for WR Bra'Lon Cherry in the end zone, but Clemson boxed him out and recorded the INT to end the game.
WOLFPACK SPOTLIGHT DRIVE - 1st half
14 plays, 88 yards in 5:52 - Kyle Bambard 28-yd field goal
After stopping Clemson on 4th & goal, the Pack took over at its own 1-yard line. NC State marched 88 yards in 14 plays, and Kyle Bambard's 28-yard field goal tied the game at 3-3 with 2:03 left in the first half. On the drive, QB Ryan Finley was 7-of-10 for 91 yards.
WOLFPACK SPOTLIGHT DRIVE - 2nd half
14 plays, 75 yards in 4:34 - Matthew Dayes 2-yd TD run
After Clemson took a 17-10 lead late in the third quarter, NC State took the ensuing kickoff 75 yards in 14 plays and tied the game at 17-17 with 11:29 left after a Matthew Dayes 2-yard TD rush. Days had 30 yards rushing on the drive, and scored his fourth TD of the season. The key play came on 4th & 6 from the Clemson 29, when Clemson was called for its first penalty of the day - pass interference giving the Pack a first down.

NOTABLES
• The overtime game was the first for NC State since 2010 at East Carolina. The Pack is now 8-6 in OT since it started in 1997, having lost its last two - both on the road.
• In the first quarter, NC State had 154 yards of total offense (111 pass, 43 rush) - compared to 96 for Clemson - but the offense was flagged six times for 45 yards in the opening 15 minutes. The Pack reached the Clemson 22 and 19-yard lines on its first two drives, but was held without a point both times.
• Overall in the first quarter, NC State had eight penalties for 76 yards - compared to none for Clemson.
• For the second time this year, NC State committed 13 penalties - the fourth-most in a single game.
• On his first pass attempt of the second quarter, QB Ryan Finley threw his first interception of the season - off a tipped pass. Finley had gone 139 straight attempts to begin his Wolfpack career with an INT - the longest streak by a starting QB without an INT in school history (Philip Rivers held previous record at 99 attempts).
• On the first play of the third quarter, cornerback Mike Stevens picked off a Clemson pass and returned it 28 yards for a touchdown. Its was the Pack's first defensive score of the season, and the first INT returned for a TD since Darian Roseboro returned one for a score last year against Syracuse.
• Clemson's four turnovers were the most forced by the Pack this season, and the most since Florida State had five last season. Over the last two games, NC State has forced seven turnovers.
• NC State forced three fumbles during the game, all-coming within the Pack's end of the field. Clemson turned the ball over on the NC State 24, 5 and 8-yard lines. Clemson was also held out of the end zone when NC State stopped the Tigers on 4th & Goal from the 1-yard line in the second quarter.
• TE Jaylen Samuels finished with career-highs of eight catches for 100 yards. A Wolfpack player has recorded at least 100 yards receiving in three games this season.

The Wolfpack will play its second straight top-10 foe next weekend, as NC State travels to No. 7 Louisville for a noon kick on ABC.
