Pack Dominates Monday’s Doubleheader

RALEIGH, N.C. – The 40^th-ranked NC State men's tennis team picked up a pair of, 7-0 wins over The Citadel on Monday. The Pack dropped only one set the whole day, as it improved to a 3-0 start to the season.

Notables:
Michael Ogden and Chris Mikrovas picked up their first duel singles win of their careers.

Shoti Meparidze bounced back from a defeat in yesterday's match to earn to a pair of wins in matches today.

Thomas Weigel, Nick Horton, Ivan Saveljic and Igor Saveljic have perfect 3-0 singles and 3-0 doubles records to start the year.

Match 1:
NC State had a convincing start to the match, winning on all three doubles courts in approximately 30 minutes. The route continued into singles play as each Wolfpack player picked up straight-set wins over their opponents.

After Weigel and Ivan won quick straight-set matches, Horton clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles.

Igor, Mikrovas and Mepridze collected the rest of the match's points with straight-set wins as well.

Match 2:
The NC State duos continued to dominate, as the Pack won another quick doubles point in the second match. After Weigel singles win gave NC State a 2-0 advantage, the Pack was forced to grind out several matches to earn the win.

Both Horton and Ivan were forced to win tiebreakers in their matches. After giving up a first-set lead, Horton took control of the match winning the tie breaker, 7-3. He then won his final set, 6-0. On No. 1 singles, Ivan won handily in his first set before entering a marathon-tiebreaker, which he eventually won 12-10.

Despite starting his match after the first singles match ended, Meparidze made quick work of his opponent and clinched the overall match, winning 6-2, 6-1.

Ogden finished off the match with a straight-set win over his opponent to complete the sweep of the Bulldogs.

Up Next:
NC State heads to Chapel Hill, N.C., Saturday and Sunday for an ITA Kickoff Match with Drake. Following the results of the round robin tournament on the first day, NC State will take on either Indiana or host North Carolina.
