
Wolfpack Track & Field Aims to Continue Hot Start

RALEIGH, N.C. – On Friday, the NC State track and field team will open the 2016 portion of its indoor schedule at the Dick Taylor Carolina Cup in Chapel Hill, N.C. A host of Wolfpack athletes will make their season debuts, as the team continues to chase national and conference marks.

Overall, 37 Wolfpackers will begin their season with 14 athletes competing in a Wolfpack uniform on the track for the first time.

Duke, East Carolina and host North Carolina will also compete in the scored meet.

Current National Qualifiers:
The NC State track and field team is off to a red-hot start this season with three top-five national marks and four marks in the top-16. Erika Kemp holds the nation's best time in the women's 5,000m at 15:45.46, Nicole Chavis is ranked fourth in the women's weight throw with a mark of 67'3.50", Luis Vargas is fifth in the men's 5,000m with a time of 13:49.86 and Rachel Koon rounds out the group with the nation's 15th best time of 16:35.02 in the 5,000m.

Fresh Faces:
True freshmen Christopher Garrick (high jump), Sam Krehnbrink (400m) Gabriele Cunningham (60m hurdles, 60m dash) Nyah Hines (60m hurdles) Megan Vaughn (mile) and Rebekah Greengrass (3,000m) will compete in uniform for the first time.

Mollie Williams (60m hurdles), Brandon McLean (60m dash) and Margaret Edwards (high jump) will also be in action as members of Wolfpack for the first time. Williams transferred from the University of South Carolina, while McLean and Edwards join the Pack following two years at UNCW.

All-Americans Back in Action:
Along with rolling out its brand new class, NC State will also have four All-Americans competing at the meet. Jonathan Addison a three-time long jump All-American will run in the 60m dash, All-American throwers Chavis and SeQuoia Watkins are slated to compete in the weight throw and women's DMR All-American Tiana Patillo will run in the 200m dash.
