By: Junior guard began career as a walk-on, now starts regularly

RALEIGH - Junior guard Ashley Williams of the NC State women's basketball team began her collegiate career as a walk-on. A lifelong Wolfpack fan, Williams had her heart set on wearing the Red & White when making her collegiate choice and has worked incredibly hard to rise from walk-on to regular starter under third-year head coach Wes Moore.

Through her first 2.5 seasons at NC State, Williams has played in 73 games and has scored 299 points. She is lethal from long range, having hit 78 three-pointers to this point in her career. She has also excelled academically, earning ACC All-Academic Team honors in 2015.

"My #STATEment is changing what being a walk-on traditionally means," Williams said. "I would hope to leave NC State with kids and people in the community thinking that just because you are a walk-on and just because you weren't necessarily recruited to the school you wanted to go to, it's still a possibility.

"With hard work, it can happen."
