Â
RALEIGH – Former NC State women's basketball great Susan Yow was named to the N.C. Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2016, the organization announced Tuesday morning.
Â
She is the third Yow sister—Deborah (2006) and Kay (1989)—to be honored by the N.C. Sports Hall of Fame.
Â
Still ranking second in the Wolfpack record books with a scoring average of 19.4 points per game during the 1975-76 season, Yow recorded one of the best single seasons in program history as she helped lead sister and head coach Kay Yow's first NC State team to a 19-7 record which included two victories over UNC-Chapel Hill and an appearance in the Women's National Invitational Tournament. During that season, Yow was the team leader in points per game (19.4), rebounds per game (11.9), field goal percentage (.584), and free throw percentage (.832).
Â
Yow was the women's basketball program's first All-American at the conclusion of this terrific season, and was also named to the All-NCAIAW Team and the All-NCAIAW Tournament Team. She is currently the head coach of the women's basketball program at Queens University of Charlotte.
Â
In addition to Yow, the 2016 N.C. Sports Hall of Fame Class includes Rod Brind'Amour (hockey), Eric "Sleepy" Floyd (basketball), David Fox (swimming), James "Rabbit" Fulghum (baseball), Antawn Jamison (basketball), Haywood Jeffires (football), Freddy Johnson (basketball), and Ray Price (racing). They will be enshrined during the 53rd annual induction banquet on the evening of Friday, May 6 at the Raleigh Convention Center. An afternoon news conference will be held on Thursday, May 5 at 4 p.m. at the NC Museum of History, located at 5 East Edenton Street.
