Wolfpack Takes Down Blue Hens in Straight Sets, 3-0

Senior Morgan Cormier, freshman Blayke Hranicka named to the all-tournament team
RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State women's volleyball team concluded play in the NC State Hilton Garden Inn Cary Classic Saturday night with a straight sets win over the Delaware Blue Hens, 3-0 (25-21, 25-14, 25-14) in Carmichael Gym.
The Wolfpack moves to 5-1 on the year, while the Blue Hens fall to 2-4.
Ole' Miss claimed the championship title with a perfect 3-0 record in the tournament, followed by NC State at 2-1, Delaware (1-2) and Jacksonville (0-3).
In its first match of the day, NC State defeated Jacksonville, 3-1.
Match Notes
- Senior Morgan Cormier and freshman Blayke Hranicka earned a spot on the six-player all-tournament team for the Wolfpack.
- NC State recorded a hitting percentage of .315 for the match, while limiting Delaware to a .071 clip.

Opening statement…
"We played well today," said head coach Bryan Bunn. "We had a tough first set against Jacksonville earlier, but we bounced back and raised our energy level to where it needed to be. We had our chances last night against Ole' Miss, we showed our youth and they were able to take advantage of it.
"Overall, it was a good learning experience and I'm pleased with the way we played this weekend."
Match Rewind
- NC State and Delaware traded points throughout the first set, as the score was tied 12 times and the lead changed six times. With the Blue Hens leading, 15-14, in the first frame, the Wolfpack went on 5-2 run to take a 19-16 advantage forcing a Delaware timeout.
- Delaware fought back to take a 21-20 lead, but NC State countered with five unanswered points to win the first set, 25-21.
- The Wolfpack's offense was clicking on all cylinders in the second set, as the squad recorded a .382 attacking percentage and never trailed nor was the score ever tied. NC State raced out to a quick 3-0 lead and then closed out the set on a 6-1 run to win it, 25-14.
- In third set, it was more of the same for the Pack as it never trailed in that frame either. State gained control of the frame early by taking a 7-3 advantage. The Wolfpack ended the set on an 11-3 run to claim it, 25-14, and win the match, 3-0.
Top Performers
- Sophomore Kaitlyn Kearney led the Wolfpack in kills with 12 to go along with a .688 attacking percentage, as she only made one error on 16 attempts. Classmate Julia Brown put down eight kills, Perry Ramsey and Hranicka each had six kills. Cormier chipped in with five.
- At the setter position, junior Maggie Speaks handed out 35 assists, collected seven digs and swatted five kills.
- Defensively, Cormier paced the Pack with 11 digs and freshman Makenzie Kuchmaner tallied 10.
