Wolfpack Women’s Soccer to Host Weekend Tournament

RALEIGH – Following two straight 2-0 victories last week, the NC State women's soccer team returns to action at home this weekend by hosting the 2015 NC State Tournament at Dail Soccer Field.

Friday, Sept. 4 … Wake Forest vs. (RV) William & Mary … 5 p.m.
Friday, Sept. 4 … NC State vs. Oregon … 8 p.m.
Sunday, Sept. 6 … Wake Forest vs. Oregon … 11 a.m.
Sunday, Sept. 6 … NC State vs. (RV) William & Mary … 2 p.m.
Friday's match against Oregon will be NC State's Youth Soccer Night, which features face-painting before the game and post-game autographs with the team. Free NC State water bottles will be given to the first 250 fans.
A WIN ON FRIDAY WOULD...
-Be the 324th win in program history
-Be NC State's third straight win
-Be NC State's first win over Oregon (second meeting)
SERIES HISTORY
-Friday's match will mark just the second all-time meeting between NC State and Oregon.
-The Ducks hold a 1-0 advantage in the series.
-NC State lost to Oregon at home on September 11, 2005, falling by a final score of 1-0.
SCOUTING THE DUCKS
-Oregon enters Friday's match the owner of a 1-3-0 record.
-The Ducks dropped three straight to open the season, falling to LSU, Seattle, and San Francisco before beating Fresno State on Aug. 30.
-Oregon has outshot its opponents 66-35 despite being outscored by a 4-2 margin.
-All four of Oregon's matches this season have been decided by one goal.
-The Ducks were selected to finish 11th of 12 teams in the Pac-12 Preseason Coaches Poll.

Oregon is coached by Kat Mertz, who is in her third season at the helm of the program. Mertz was a goalkeeping legend at NC State from 1994-97 and is still the program's all-time saves leader with 436.
GOOD WEEK FOR GOALKEEPERS
NC State goalkeepers Mackenzie Stelljes and Sydney Wootten combined for 10 saves in back-to-back shutout wins over Elon and East Tennessee State, lowering the team goals-against average to 0.75.
HOME STRETCH
The Wolfpack's next three matches are all at home. NC State will host Oregon (Sept. 4), William & Mary (Sept. 6), and UNC Greensboro (Sept. 10) before taking to the road for three straight contests at Davidson (Sept. 13), Coastal Carolina (Sept. 16), and Pittsburgh (Sept. 20).
FIRST YEARS, FIRST GOALS
Freshman Ella Bonner scored the first goal of her career in just her third appearance against Elon. The Virginia native scored on a first-time volley from more than 18 yards out in the 26th minute to give the Pack a 1-0 lead.
This was followed by a first-career goal from classmate Maxine Blackwood in NC State's next match, a 2-0 win at East Tennessee State. Blackwood assisted on Jackie Stengel's goal in the 31st minute before opening her scoring account in the 46th.
ROOKIE FIELD PLAYERS
All five of the first-year field players have appeared in each of NC State's first four matches. Defender Hannah Keogh leads the team with 362 of a possible 362 minutes played.
