The Pack (6-2) leapt out to a 1-0 advantage on Taiwo's brilliant strike from 25 yards in the 24th minute. Gardner-Webb (1-6) answered State three minutes later, a pattern that repeated itself later in the first half. Hachem scored on a cross from Wannemuehler to secure a 2-1 advantage in the 32nd minute, before the Bulldogs tied it up again in the 41st.
After a 2-2 tie at the break, Peterson scored his first goal of the year on a Caleb Duvernay rebound. Knudson granted the Wolfpack breathing room at long last in the 55th minute, scoring his third goal of the season.
The 61st minute saw GWU narrow the gap to 4-3, but the Pack defense remained reliable down the stretch to preserve the win. Alex McCauley stopped three shots in goal during the winning effort.
NC State returns to action on Friday at Louisville, kickoff scheduled for 7 PM.
