The women's tennis team completed day three of play at the Duke Invitational on Sunday
CARY, N.C. – The NC State women's tennis team concluded play at the Duke Invitational on Sunday with Joanna Nalborska placing second and Amanda Rebol placing third in consolation singles.
On Saturday, Nalborska defeated Victoria Olivarez of Virginia 1-6, 6-4, 6-0 in the consolation semifinals advancing her to the final round of consolation singles play. On Sunday Nalborska fell 6-4, 6-2 to Spencer Liang of Florida in the final round.
Rebol finished third in consolation singles with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Katarina Weymouth from Furman.
Both Wolfpack doubles duos competed in their final doubles matches on Saturday falling to their opponents from Duke and Florida.
"This was a great opportunity for the team to participate in one of the best fall tournaments in college tennis. Clearly the competition was tough but that's the level we aspire to play at. We have to gain experience in what's necessary to compete with teams at that level of play. I think it was a great indicator for the girls who played, of what's possible and the reality of what our expectation level is relative to the team goals. We have a very young team and this event was a great catalyst to help speed up the development process, which is exactly what we needed." – Simon Earnshaw, head coach
