Horton, Norenius and Meparidze win singles matches on day two

Cary, N.C. – The NC State men's tennis team continued play at the Duke James Bonk Invite on Saturday, as three Wolfpackers picked up singles wins.

Results:

Nick Horton advanced to the finals of the white draw, knocking off Donte Saleh of Auburn, and second-seeded Eddie Covalschi of Notre Dame.

Horton eased past Saleh in straight sets, before grinding out a 6-1, 3-6, 7-5 win over Covalschi.

In the black draw, Simon Norenius advanced to the semifinals, dropping Robert Herrera of ETSU, 6-4,1-6, 7-6 (5). Anudeep Kodali of North Carolina defeated Norenius in a three-set thriller.

Shoti Meparidze bounced back to pick up his first win of the season in the consolation blue draw. Meparidze defeated Duke's Jason Lapidus, 6-0, 7-5.

Up Next:

NC State will prepare to face off against two Tarheels in Saturday's finals. Horton will take on Carolina's Brett Clark in the final. Clark is currently ranked 51^st in the preseason ITA polls. In other action Norenius will play in the third-place match against Blaine Boyden. In consolation play, Meparidze will face Jaken Thoen of Radford.
