JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – The NC State women's soccer team (2-2-0) picked up its second straight victory on Sunday afternoon, winning at previously unbeaten East Tennessee State (3-1-0) by a final score of 2-0.
Jackie Stengel scored her second goal of the season (11th career) in the 31st minute of the match following a nice through ball from freshman Maxine Blackwood to give the Pack a 1-0 lead. Blackwood then capitalized on a defensive mistake just 32 seconds into the second half, giving the Red & White a 2-0 lead in the 46th minute.
Freshman goalkeeper Sydney Wootten recorded her first collegiate clean sheet in just her second start. The San Diego native made five important stops to keep the unbeaten Bucs off the board.
"Overall we were pretty comfortable and managed the game pretty well," NC State head coach Tim Santoro said. "It was a long week with the two tough matches last weekend and all of the travel issues we encountered. To be 2-2 just a few days later with two shutout wins, that's a great step for the team."
